By: Dr Ken Ho

With so many whitening solutions available for you to choose from, how do you know which is the safest, which offers the best results, how sensitive your teeth may become or how long they last?

Your dental health is checked and you are advised of any problems before whitening commences. For example, dental decay must be attended to before any whitening treatment starts.

In addition to this, your dentist will discuss the results you can expect. If you have any dental restorations, these will not whiten therefore you need to make sure your restoration is the end result you require the rest of your teeth to match.

Aromatherapy that is Just Right for Winter

Aromatherapy that is Just Right for Winter

By: Alex Rider

As winter approaches people tend to close up their houses against the worsening elements. Grey days get shorter, the air in your house may need some invigoration.

Scents to Freshen and Cleanse your Home

winter-greens.jpgWinter time calls for scents that freshen and cleanse the air. Oils that are typically used are evergreen, citrus, woody, resin and spice. Citrus oils, sharp and zingy, bring about images of oranges tucked deep in stockings and age-old citrus pomanders. Ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon and clove are spicy smells reminding many people of foods like gingerbread and spice cake.

Citrus fruits like oranges used to be a very rare treat at Christmas, let alone any other time of the year. Today’s well developed transport and communications systems simply weren’t around in the past. An orange by its self was seen as a special present, often around Christmas studded with cloves, carefully dried to retain its scent or rolled in spices. Mixes of citrus and spicy scents help to reduce the common winter feeling of lethargy.

To create an uplifting and fresh clove-studded, rich and spicy scent this Christmas why not mist up the home with the following essential oil concoction:

> 5 drops of ginger
> 5 drops of nutmeg
> 10 drops of cinnamon
> 25 drops of clove bud
> 10 drops of lemon
> 10 drops of bergamot
> 45 drops of sweet orange

Use around 12 drops of this exciting mix per ounce of warm water.

By: Biljana

mix-body-scrub.jpgAll of us are unique, and so are our bodies. With body scrub recipes, you can meet your skin’s needs because you can try out differrent ingredients and look for best results. Skin will respond differently to different oils and different exfoliating agents.

Brown Sugar Body Scrub

One of the most popular body scrub recipes is the one for brown sugar body scrub. It is often described as yummy and soothing. Certainly, it is not caloric, so if you are on a diet, you can freely enjoy it without worrying about gaining weight!
Brown sugar is full of molasses which makes it brown and moist. Its grains are smaller than of regular, white sugar which makes it a perfect exfoliant. It is not too harsh on the skin, it is gentle and easily sloughs off dead skin cells. It smells great, warms the skin up, and leaves it smooth and luscious.

Recipe for Brown Sugar Body Scrub

> Ingredients

2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons ground oats
2 tablespoons aloe vera gel
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 teaspoon almond oil (in case you don’t have almond oil, use olive oil, it is a great substitute).

> Preparation

Before you start preparing this scrub, grind the oatmeal using a coffee grunder or food processor. It has to be of sandy consistency, flaky and light otherwise it will scratch the skin.

Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl. Mix until it resembles a paste. It should be applied on moist skin, the best time is after you took a shower. It will help the skin cells slough off faster.

Use circular motion and massage gently using your fingertips. Rinse off with warm water.

Sunlight, Aging, and Treatments

Causes of Facial Wrinkles and Other Skin Conditions

By: Bell Samantha

sun-protection.jpgAmericans spend billions of dollars each year on skin care products that promise to erase wrinkles, lighten age spots, and eliminate itching, flaking, or redness. But the simplest and cheapest way to keep your skin healthy and young looking is to stay out of the sun.

Sunlight is a major cause of the skin changes we think of as aging changes such as wrinkles, dryness, and age spots. Your skin does change with age. For example, you sweat less, leading to increased dryness. As your skin ages, it becomes thinner and loses fat, so it looks less plump and smooth. Underlying structures veins and bones in particular become more prominent. Your skin can take longer to heal when injured.

You can delay these changes by staying out of the sun. Although nothing can completely undo sun damage, the skin sometimes can repair itself. So, it’s never too late to protect yourself from the harmful effects of the sun.

Wrinkles

Over time, the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) light damages the fibers in the skin called elastin. The breakdown of these fibers causes the skin to lose its ability to snap back after stretching. As a result, wrinkles form. Gravity also is at work, pulling at the skin and causing it to sag, most noticeably on the face, neck, and upper arms.

Natural Anti-Aging Skin Care

Natural Anti-aging Skincare

By: Bell Samantha

Nothing has been more better pursued by people than anti-aging methods.

anti-aging-skin-care.jpgSince it is such a heart subject it involves a lot of mystique and unfounded beliefs. Sometimes myths are better looked at and believed than the naked truth because they are more popular since they are usually spread by word of mouth, and they come from tradition. There are some natural anti-aging skincares that are traditional.

Keep Moving

The best way today to keep fit and healthy is exercise.

With the age the body metabolism slows down, and same slows down the blood circulation, the body oxygenation. Exercise keeps the body going and with it increases the blood circulation to all of the parts of the body including the skin. Good exercise provides good blood circulation, this provides adequate oxygenation to the skin making it supple and radiant. (more…)
