Tips for a Relaxing Aromatherapy Bath

By: Toby Russell

claremont-spa.jpgAn aromatherapy bath is a wonderful way to relax away stress and anxiety, relieve muscle pains or begin a sensual and romantic evening.

While hot baths have traditionally been a favorite of women, it should be noted that today more and more men are learning the benefits of aromatherapy baths.

The key to achieving your goal with an aromatherapy bath is the selection of just the right essential oils and oil blends.

To begin your aromatherapy bath, simply add a few drops of essential oil to one ounce of carrier oil. Sweet almond oil works wonderfully as a carrier oil for this purpose. The blend should then be added to running bath water and mixed well before you step in.

There are numerous different recipes you can use to create an aromatherapy bath to suit your specific purpose. Excellent choices for a sensuous aromatherapy bath include rose, neroli, jamsmine, ylang ylang and sandalwood.

If you’re looking for something to soothe and smoothe after a long hard day at work, consider options such as Chamomile or lavender.

An aromatherapy bath is also a great way to help your kids unwind after a long hard day at play and ensure they receive the rest they need during the night. A warm bath with essential oils such as chamomile and lavender is certain to soothe an active child.

To prevent any unwanted problems arising from your aromatherapy bath, always make sure you use only essential oils to which you have no sensitivity. If you’re not sure whether you may have a sensitivity to a particular oil, an aromatherapy bath is not a good time to experiment.

In addition, be aware that there are some oils that should always be avoided in an aromatherapy bath. These oils include cinnamon, black pepper, clove, thyme, nutmeg, basil, bay and oregano.

Be aware that an aromatherapy bath, although very relaxing, may be best enjoyed if you shower and actually cleanse yourself before stepping into the aromatic bath for relaxing.

Whether you’re looking to soothe your tired body, pamper and rejuvenate or share a romantic evening with your partner, an aromatherapy bath is a wonderful way to treat yourself.
